On Monday, October 3 through Thursday, October 6, the inaugural Elkhart County Manufacturing Week took place. This event provided approximately 619 students with the opportunity to visit 26 local manufacturers in order to explore the diverse education and career opportunities available in our community. Throughout this experience, students gained insight into the career pathways and the corresponding educational pipelines available to them within Elkhart’s dynamic manufacturing industry.
This week, eight middle schools in Elkhart County participated in this unique event, including Concord, Goshen, Jimtown, North Side, Northridge, Northwood, Pierre Moran, and West Side. The event will continue throughout the month of October with approximately 140 students from Fairfield Middle School participating on Wednesday, October 19. Each middle school is also hosting a Parent Event in order to educate families on the diverse career and financial opportunities available in Elkhart County’s manufacturing facilities.
Elkhart County Manufacturing Week 2016 was facilitated and funded through the EDC and Horizon Education Alliance (HEA). The success of this event was not possible without the generous contributions from the Community Foundation of Elkhart County and Thor Industries. Additional sponsors include Big R Stores, Burston Marketing, Elkhart Area Career Center, DuMor Water, Hawkins Water, Ivy Tech, Matterhorn Catering, MSC Industrial Supply and Paragon Printing.
Elkhart County Manufacturing Week corresponded with National Manufacturing Day which falls on Friday, October 7.
