Northern Indiana, and especially
Elkhart County and its surrounding counties, are home to many Amish. Some
of the most interesting shopping, dining and sightseeing are a result of their
presence.
Nearby Shipshewana is home to the Midwest’s Largest Flea
Market! Held every Tuesday and Wednesday of each week from the first of May
through the end of October, hundreds of vendors can be found selling everything
from fresh fruit to handcrafted furniture.
On Wednesdays, eight to ten
auctioneers sell a vast array of antiques and collectibles. Every week they have
people in attendance from all across the country. Many of their customers
(buyers and sellers) are there every Wednesday, but there are also new people
every time.
They also have Livestock Auctions
every Wednesday and Horse Auctions every Friday.
The town is small, but beautiful.
Country shops of all kinds abound; country crafts, Amish-made furniture, Amish
food, music, toy, quilting and fabric shops. Amish restaurants and a bulk
food grocery store round out the many unique shops in this small town.
